Challenge

Topcon Healthcare (THI) aimed to modernize its infrastructure to enable AI-led retinal screening for early detection of diabetes, cardiovascular, and neurological diseases. To scale globally, THI needed a secure, standardized, cloud-first platform.

Its fragmented setup – across
on-prem systems, IBM Cloud, and legacy deployments, created technical debt, inconsistent security, and limited scalability. Global operations and tight timelines made rapid, structured modernization essential, despite internal skills gaps.

Solution

Fujitsu, selected for its European presence and trusted relationship with THI, partnered with Microsoft to migrate THI’s global infrastructure to Azure.

The programme began with migrating customer-facing workloads into Azure across regions including the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Internal systems followed, including development environments and repositories.

Fujitsu deployed landing zones and worked with Microsoft and THI to refine infrastructure and security design. Hands-on training helped THI upskill staff, with several earning Microsoft certifications. Performance testing frameworks were also co-developed to support future AI scalability.

Outcomes

THI now runs on a secure, high-performing Azure platform with improved visibility, availability, and risk detection via Microsoft Sentinel. Azure native tools support data-driven decisions and a shift to microservices and AI.

The engagement met its goals while building internal capability, proving the value of co-delivery, trust, and shared ownership in healthcare transformation.
